In the hall of the National Council, an important national consultation entitled “The need to create a flexible national environment for information security education” took place in Ljubljana on March 11, 2024. The event was organized by the National Council, the Institute for Corporate Security Studies, and the Slovenian Corporate Security Association. The purpose of the consultation was to address the problem of a lack of adequate personnel and to provide education in the field of information security. Slovenia is facing a severe shortage of qualified personnel in the field of cybersecurity, which represents a serious threat to the operation of critical infrastructure and organizations in the country. With the rapid development of information technologies, especially artificial intelligence, cyberattacks are becoming more advanced, requiring a responsive and flexible education system geared towards real market needs. The conference was chaired by State Councillor Mr. Rajko Fajt and President of the ICS Council Dr. Denis Čaleta.

In his opening address, the President of the National Council, Mr. Marko Lotrič, drew attention to the need to adapt educational programs to current and future cybersecurity needs in all sectors, stressing that it is crucial for the smooth functioning of organizations and society as a whole to have suitably qualified personnel. An extremely interesting round table was held at the conference, which was also attended by a number of important stakeholders, namely State Secretary at the Ministry of Digital Transformation Dr. Aida Kamišalić Latifić, President of the Management Board of Telekom Slovenija, d. d. Boštjan Košak, Director of the Slovenian Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, Dr. Franci Demšar, Dean of the Faculty of Entrepreneurship GEA College, Mag. Katja Kraškovic, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Science Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mojca Ciglarič, and representative of the Information Security Office Mr. Marjan Kavčič. The round table was moderated by Dr. Denis Čaleta.

The round table exchanged views and stressed the need for joint efforts to create a dynamic environment in the field of training information security professionals. The aim of the conclusions of the consultation was to help strategic institutions find effective ways to create a more responsive and market-adapted education system. It was pointed out that EU projects such as SUNRISE are bringing positive impacts also to the relevant national strategic views. In conclusion, Dr. Denis Čaleta, President of the Board of the Institute for Corporate Security Studies, stressed the need to pool professional resources and pointed out that a strategic approach is required to provide a sufficient number of qualified experts in the field of cybersecurity.
