The SUNRISE Project was proud to take part in the Days of Crisis Management 2025 (DKU 2025) conference, held in Velika Gorica, Croatia. This annual international event brings together experts, policymakers, and practitioners to share knowledge and best practices in crisis management and civil protection.
SUNRISE contributed to the agenda through two key presentations that highlighted the project’s mission to strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructure systems across Europe.
SUNRISE Highlights at DKU 2025
As part of the session on Communication and Innovative Technologies for Crisis Management, two SUNRISE presentations stood out:
-
Aljoša Pašić delivered a keynote titled “Crisis Management and Resilience of Critical Infrastructure: SUNRISE Project Insights”. His talk explored the systemic challenges faced by national infrastructure operators and how SUNRISE is addressing these through a combination of innovative technologies and policy-aligned strategies.
-
Nikolay Zherdev and Lora Mateeva presented “Innovative Technologies for Critical Infrastructure Resilience: Impact-Informed Governance in Energy and Water Sectors”. They introduced SUNRISE’s multi-criteria impact assessment framework, which evaluates the societal, environmental, and economic implications of new technologies, ensuring that resilience innovations are also responsible and future-ready.
Key Messages
-
Impact-Informed Innovation: SUNRISE’s assessment methodology enables decision-makers to evaluate technologies not only by performance but also by their alignment with public needs and strategic policy goals.
-
Stakeholder-Driven Approach: The project actively involves infrastructure operators, policymakers, and civil society to ensure practical relevance and adoption of its tools and outcomes.
-
Real-World Applications: The methodologies developed are already being tested in use cases across the energy and water sectors, providing early feedback and validation.
Looking Ahead
Participation in DKU 2025 provided valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration. The SUNRISE Project continues to build on this momentum, engaging with key stakeholders to co-create tools and policies that improve the resilience and sustainability of Europe’s critical infrastructure.
