SUNRISE National Workshop Series Round Two: Spain

The second instalment in the second round of SUNRISE National Workshops took place at the Telecommunications Engineering School of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) on May 9th.

Building upon the successfully implemented first round of national workshops that took place towards the end of 2022, the goal of these gatherings is to facilitate regular discussions with critical infrastructure and gather their expert insights that will inform the project’s results. This direct input from the project’s key stakeholders will be crucial to the success of the SUNRISE outputs, ensuring they are meeting the real needs of CI operators in Europe.

It was led and moderated by Jose M. Del Alamo, Felix Cuadrado, Javier Andión, Jose Miguel Blanco, and Juan Andrés Alonso (Atos Spain).

All Spanish project partners and invited partners with 23 participants were present at the workshop. In addition to UPM and Atos, the SUNRISE partners participanting included the Ministry of Interior, QS Instituto de Salud e Innovación, IDCQ Hospitales y Sanidad, Telefónica Investigación y Desarrollo, Consorcio Regional de Transportes Públicos Regulares de Madrid, and Acosol

In addition, the invited participants included representatives from the following domains: banking and financial services, water distribution and management, health authorities, energy production and distribution, and industrial associations.

After the welcoming address of the organizers and the mutual introduction of the participants, the purpose of the productive discussion was to gather experience, identify shortcomings, expectations and good practices formulating answers on how we can support each other, and how we can collaborate better in crises related to:

– Epidemiological scenarios

– Climate change scenarios and

–  Threats scenarios.

The focus was on creating answers, how we can support others and how we can better cooperate in crises related to the pandemic situations. Special emphasis was placed on understanding the public-private partnership and what is already in the operational environment, what is missing and how we can achieve strategic and system improvements. The collected information, experience and good practice will support the continuation of discussions, analyzes and research of the EU project SUNRISE in the national and international environment.

Next up is the project’s EU workshop on June 9th 2023 which will bring the SUNRISE national workshop discussions to date together.
