Welcome to the first edition of the new SUNRISE LinkedIn newsletter series.
This newsletter will be published on a quarterly basis and aims to provide a quick overview of developments relating to the SUNRISE project and pandemic preparedness that occurred within the last quarter.
Below are the project highlights dating back to the beginning of the project in October.
What is SUNRISE?
SUNRISE is €10M EU-funded project focusing on improving the resilience of infrastructures affected by pandemics. The 3-year project will develop effective strategies and technologies to ensure availability, reliability, and continuity of ‘lifeline’ services such as electricity, drinking water, and health care in Europe.
It will also improve procedures to reduce the exposure of workforce to infectious diseases and disruptions to healthcare services. In addition, it will enhance public-private, cross-border, and cross-sector cooperation of critical infrastructure stakeholders to improve the response to pandemics and to understand their cascading effects.
SUNRISE is funded under the Horizon Europe programme and has 41 partners involved from across Europe.
SUNRISE Kick-Off Meeting in Madrid
In early October the SUNRISE kick-off meeting took place at the Polytechnic University of Madrid over the course of two days.
Some of the many partners involved gave a detailed overview of the project’s key objectives and actions and discussed plans for the first six months.
The kick-off meeting also represented an opportunity to hear from some of the partners and their work on the SUNRISE project including Fabrice Klein of the Port of Bordeaux who spoke of the impact SUNRISE will have, below.
First round of SUNRISE workshops
The first round of SUNRISE National Workshops took place in November in Italy, Spain, and Slovenia.
The workshops gathered representatives of critical infrastructure authorities and operators across various domains including telecommunications, health, and energy, at local, regional, and national levels.
Launch of the SUNRISE Europe website
The SUNRISE project website officially went live at the end of December (Home Page | sunrise-europe.eu)
The site contains information about the SUNRISE project and its objectives and tools as well as profiling all of the 41 project partners involved.
