Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI)
Braunschweig – Germany
Brief Biography of Partner
HZI is Germany’s largest academic institution dedicated exclusively to infection research. In line with its mission, the centre develops new strategies for the early detection, prevention, and treatment of infectious diseases. HZI researchers investigate bacterial and viral pathogens of high clinical relevance, elucidate their interactions with the host‘s immune system and explore new ways to prevent and combat infections.
Partner’s Role in the SUNRISE project
Within SUNRISE, HZI will review and model the risk for Europe of severe infectious-disease spread under different climate change scenarios and other risk factors. This will lead to listing which types of control measures are probable and which indicators are necessary, including new data sources such as wastewater samples or mobility.
New structures such as population panels (cohorts) will be studied. HZI will mature the project’s tool for disease spread modelling with support from partners ISS (providing data on wastewater and disease spread analysis) and HER (climate change projections).
