SUNRISE CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE SERIES

Telekom Slovenije, as a key part of critical infrastructure in Slovenia, is aware of its responsibility to provide reliable and uninterrupted telecommunications services, which are essential for the functioning of the entire society, especially during pandemics and natural disasters. Within the framework of the SUNRISE project, co-financed by the EU, we are focused on increasing the resilience of our networks and services so that we can operate effectively even under the most challenging circumstances and respond promptly and appropriately to unforeseen situations.

Telecommunications are the backbone of modern society, enabling communication and access to information and services that are crucial for the operation of other critical infrastructure sectors, such as healthcare, energy, transportation, and water supply. In emergency situations, such as pandemics and natural disasters, the reliability and resilience of telecommunications networks become even more critical. We were aware of this both during the pandemic and in last year’s floods that affected Slovenia.

Telekom Slovenije recognizes its responsibility to citizens and other critical infrastructure sectors. Our commitment is to ensure the continuous operation of our services even in the most unpredictable and demanding conditions. To achieve this, Telekom Slovenije must ensure the uninterrupted operation of its networks. Our networks are designed to withstand increased loads and potential disruptions that may occur during pandemics or natural disasters. We regularly conduct tests and simulations to ensure the readiness of our systems. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we ensured the smooth operation of communication channels, which enabled the implementation and coordination of healthcare services and the dissemination of key information to the population. In times of increased risk of cyber-attacks, we strengthened our security measures to protect our networks and users’ data. Our cybersecurity team constantly monitors threats and responds quickly to potential incidents. As part of the SUNRISE project consortium, together with various European partners, we acquire key knowledge and collaborate in exchanging both knowledge and experience, which helps us improve our practices while also seeking and developing new solutions to enhance the resilience of our networks and services.

The SUNRISE project provides us with access to the latest research and innovations in the field of critical infrastructure resilience. Collaboration with partners within the project helps us develop strategies and approaches that ensure our telecommunications systems remain reliable even in times of crisis.

Telekom Slovenije continuously adapts to changing circumstances and new challenges. Our participation in the SUNRISE project is part of our broader strategy to improve the resilience of Telekom Slovenije’s networks and services. With this, we aim to continue effectively supporting society and the economy during pandemics, natural disasters, and other extraordinary and unforeseen situations.
